Las Rosas Foundation

Las Rosas Foundation is a non-profit civil institution dedicated to welcoming and providing care to older adults, especially those living in poverty and vulnerability. Its mission is to ensure that older adults live their old age with dignity, love, and the necessary care.

The Ventanas Home is managed by the Las Rosas Foundation and is located in the Puchuncaví commune, in the Quintero Bay area, characterized by the convergence of port, industrial, energy, agricultural, urban, environmental, and fishing activities, all linked to the Puchuncaví-Quintero watershed. Nearby is the Ventanas industrial complex, comprised of more than 14 energy companies.

The residence houses 64 seniors, men and women over 60 years of age, on a permanent basis. The average age of the residents is 83, and they are supported by a team of 51 staff members.

Admission to the residency is based on the applicant’s willingness and their social, family, or economic vulnerability. Most residents have clinical diagnoses that require assistance with activities of daily living, with cognitive impairment, senile dementia, and Alzheimer’s being common.

The home’s courtyard has a significant slope, making it difficult for wheelchair users or those with gait instability. This challenge was identified as an opportunity to improve accessibility and ensure all residents can enjoy the space safely and comfortably.

The goal is to ensure universal accessibility by incorporating ramps, appropriate pavements, and adapted furniture such as wheelchair-accessible tables, thus facilitating the arrival and participation of a greater number of residents. This inclusive access will also allow the space to be used for clinical and sensory therapies, promoting autonomy, the development of cognitive skills, sensory integration, and physical activation.

The development of social and personal spaces is also planned, designed for gatherings between residents, their families, and the team, strengthening the home’s identity. Flexible areas will be considered to allow for exploring personal interests and promoting holistic development.

Finally, rest areas will be incorporated for staff, recognizing the importance of their well-being and allowing for restorative breaks throughout the workday.
