In the commune of Santo Domingo, next to the mouth of the Maipo River, lies this natural treasure, home to more than 180 species of birds, including the seven-colored bird, and a must-see free outdoor walk.

It is located on the southern bank of the Maipo River, next to its mouth, in the commune of Santo Domingo, and is a true natural treasure of the Central Coast.

Since 2018, it has been managed and operated by the Cosmos Foundation, which has created trails, viewpoints, walkways, and infrastructure that make it a must-see outdoor excursion 90 minutes from Santiago.

Especially for those who love nature and enjoy the outdoors, as here they can stroll alongside grasslands and scrublands, spot hundreds of bird species, and also discover the native flora of the river mouth.

And all at no cost, since the Río Maipo Wetland Park has free admission all year round.

Home to more than 180 birds

The park covers almost 40 hectares and encompasses a variety of areas and habitats: grasslands, scrublands, dunes, estuaries, and beaches.

Together, they bring to life what is home to more than 180 species of birds, representing around 34% of the country’s birdlife.

The ecosystem of this wetland is part of the migratory route for birds that travel from the Northern Hemisphere to the South and find a resting place and food here.
