Located on the border of the municipalities of Santo Domingo and San Antonio, in the Valparaíso Region, we visited a unique ecosystem: the Maipo River Wetland. It is home to approximately 180 bird species, representing 34% of the national birdlife. Although this ecosystem is considered one of the most important in central Chile, until recently it was used as a communal dumping ground for branches and debris. This is what the Maipo River Wetland Park has faced, and its 40 hectares have set out to restore the area and conduct environmental education, among other activities.
