A new gallery was added today to the Violeta Parra Museum , expanding the exhibition of content that introduces us to the life and passions of the national artist. This is the “La Jardinera” gallery, inaugurated this morning by President Michelle Bachelet during the ceremony commemorating the 100th anniversary of Parra’s birth. The President was accompanied at all times by Isabel Parra, the Minister of Education, Adriana Delpiano; the Mayor of Santiago, Felipe Alessandri; the President of the Board of the Violeta Museum Foundation, Carlos Aldunate; the Executive Secretary of the Cultural Donations Law Committee, Óscar Agüero; and Diego Urrejola, Executive Director of the Cosmos Foundation.

The garden is a collaboration between the Violeta Parra Museum and the Cosmos Foundation, with the participation of the landscaping company Arbolaria, and emphasizes Violeta Parra’s relationship with nature. Its design was inspired by the song “La Jardinera” and, therefore, features blue violets, pansies, chamomile, poppies, lemon balm, and many other plant species referenced by the artist in her work. The garden also features a universally accessible path so everyone can explore it and discover the various elements that highlight Violeta Parra’s sensorial dimension: a canal and waterfall, bird baths, and aviaries, among others.

“We are very pleased to contribute to capturing Violeta’s connection with nature and, at the same time, create a new garden for the enjoyment and benefit of the entire community,” said Diego Urrejola, Executive Director of the Cosmos Foundation.

The Violeta Parra Museum was inaugurated on October 4, 2015, with the goal of safeguarding the artist’s significant legacy and passing it on to new generations through educational, artistic, and academic activities. Since its opening, the museum has welcomed more than 150,000 visitors.
