Two common oystercatchers were affected, showing injuries to their wings due to elements associated with fishing.
In the Río Maipo Wetland Nature Sanctuary, one of the permanent monitoring operations was being carried out when two specimens of common oystercatcher (Haematopus palliatus) were detected affected by elements associated with fishing activities.
The case involved an adult bird with a fishing line deeply embedded in its wing, damaging the propatagium tendon, a key structure for flight. Due to the severity of the injury, the veterinary team had to make the decision to euthanize it.
