Mr. Director:
The water crisis in Chile is an urgent call to rethink water management, not only as a scarce resource, but as a common good that demands inclusive and sustainable governance. The “Water Agreement,” signed by 14 civil society organizations, trade associations, and the Los Lagos Regional Government, seeks to make transparency, participation, and local adaptation the pillars of a new water management model. This agreement, which emerged from participatory workshops and an exhaustive collection of opinions, identified key principles such as water management at the basin level, ecosystem conservation, and the need for national governance that responds to local realities. With a long-term policy and innovative practices, Chile can face climate challenges without compromising its ecological balance. We call on the authorities to implement these principles and translate this vision into concrete actions, capable of building a public policy that responds to the demands of our time and ensures a sustainable future for future generations.
