An open-air museum experience that raises awareness and informs visitors, strengthening their connection with the territory

The project “Maipo River Wetland: Museography for a socio-ecosystem” seeks to highlight the cultural and natural heritage of the Maipo River estuary, through an interpretive and interactive tour that allows residents and visitors to immerse themselves in the history, biodiversity and ecological dynamics of this important nature sanctuary.

The museum’s design consists of sensory and participatory stations that invite visitors to explore the wetland from multiple perspectives.

Its key features include:

Public-private collaboration for the enhancement of the Wetland

This initiative was developed by Fundación Cosmos with support from the Public Science Program of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge, and Innovation. Its purpose is to strengthen the relationship between the community and this protected ecosystem by fostering curiosity, observation, and active participation in its care.

A central feature of the project is the digital interpretation station, created in collaboration with Audubon Americas, which explores the fascinating phenomenon of bird migration. Through interactive content, it reveals how migratory birds connect ecosystems and communities across the hemisphere, reminding visitors that the health of the Río Maipo Wetland is intertwined with the well-being of habitats and people throughout the Americas.

Altogether, the exhibition includes 12 interpretive stations distributed throughout the Río Maipo Wetland Park, offering an educational and recreational experience that brings more than 25,000 visitors each year closer to understanding and appreciating this valuable socio-ecosystem.
